Manchester United Hojlund agreed a five-year contract with the option of a further season as United manager Erik ten Hag finally satisfied his desire to bring in a striker ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Manchester United signed Danish striker Rasmus Hjolund from Atalanta for a £64 million ($82 million) fee on Saturday.
Hojlunde agreed a five- time contract with the option of a farther season as United director Erik Ten Haage eventually satisfied his desire to bring in the striker before the new Premier League campaign.
United could pay an additional £8 million if add-on clauses in the 20-year contract are met.
” It’s no secret that I have been a addict of this great club since I was little, and I have always pictured of playing at Old Trafford as a Manchester United player,” Hojlund said.
“I am extremely excited by this opportunity to turn that dream into reality and I am determined to repay the trust the club has placed in me.
Manchester United sign Denmark striker Hojlund
“It’s still early in my career, but I know I’m ready to take that step forward and play with this group of world-class players.”
Hojalund was introduced to United supporters on the Old Trafford pitch ahead of a 3–1 friendly win over Lens, hours after his signing was confirmed.
England striker Harry Kane, who appears to be bound for German champions Bayern Munich, has made Ten Hage Hojlund his top target after United reportedly refused to pay Tottenham’s asking price.
French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be eyeing Hojlund’s signature before United race.
Ten Haag was keen to increase his lucrative options after a season in which his team often lacked cutting edge.
United finished third in the Premier League but had scored only 58 pretensions – 36 smaller than titleholders Manchester City.
“He’s a real frontman. Very direct to goal, very good presser, physical presence,” said Ten Haag.
“He wants to score goals. I think he has got a lot of potential. And now it’s up to him to find it and we, all the coaches, will support him.
“ The platoon was staying for a player like him. He’ll integrate him in the dressing room and on the pitch, he’ll help him.”
Hjlund has enjoyed a sudden rise since beginning his career in relative obscurity with Danish club FC Copenhagen in 2020.
He moved to Austrian team Sturm Graz, where his 12 goals in 21 games convinced Atalanta to sign him in August 2022.
He scored 10 pretensions in 34 appearances in all competitions for the Italian platoon last season, attracting the attention of Ten Haag in the process.
physical presence – Manchester United
The 6ft 2in tall Hojlund, who has scored six times in six appearances for Denmark, must have the physical presence to counter the attacking approach of the Premier League defenders.
In addition to his impressive physique, he also possesses tremendous speed and predatory instincts in the penalty area.
Hojlund’s Atalanta master Gian Piero Gasperini compared him to Manchester City’s record- breaking striker Erling Haaland, whose pretensions helped United’s rivals win the treble last term.
In his first season in charge, Ten Haaget led United to their first trophy in six years when they beat Newcastle in the League Cup final in February.
But the Dutch trainer continues to hunt for a title challenge this season and Hojlund will be anticipated to make an immediate impact after his signing cost Ten Haag further than£ 160 million in the close season.
After Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and international Milan goalkeeper Andre Ona, Hojlund is the third key player at Old Trafford since last season.
The Danish striker could make his competitive debut for United against Wolves at Old Trafford in the opening Premier League clash on 14 August.
