King Charles III has been formally proclaimed head of state of each Australia and New Zealand at ceremonies within the nations’ capitals.
In New Zealand on Sunday, the proclamation of Charles as monarch, taking up from Queen Elizabeth II who died aged 96, passed off within the parliament in Wellington.
Talking from parliament’s steps, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern mentioned the occasion acknowledged the queen’s son, “His Majesty King Charles III as our sovereign”.
Ardern advised a crowd that within the wake of the queen’s demise, New Zealand had entered a time of change.
“King Charles … has constantly demonstrated his deep take care of our nation,” she mentioned. “This relationship is deeply valued by our folks. I’ve little doubt it should deepen.”
