His report of a state expert committee constituted by the government to enact a law to end polygamy in Assam to find out its legislative capacity. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Sunday. Sharma shared photos of the committee handing over the report and documents to him on Twitter. However, the contents and recommendations of this report have not yet been made public.

The Chief Minister also said, ‘Assam Hans is close to creating a positive environment for the empowerment of women irrespective of caste, creed or religion.’
On May 12, the Chief Minister of Assam announced the formation of a four-member expert committee under the chairmanship of Justice (Retd) Rumi Kumari Phukan. Apart from Phukan, other members of the committee include State Advocate General Devjit Saikia, Senior Additional Advocate General Nalin Kohli and Senior Advocate Nakeeb-ur-Zaman.
